East
China Township was organized in 1859. It has a population of 3,482. St. John River
District Hospital is located here. The township has an 80-acre park, East China Township
Park, which is a significant recreational resource. There are 310 acres dedicated to

Museum: The
red Brick Schoolhouse on Meisner Road has been restored by East China Historical Society.
It dates to the turn-of-the-century and has a museum.

East China Township
Park Across from the township hall has a sledding hill, skating rink, walking trails,
picnic areas, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, a paved bicycle path that
leadsnorth and south from the township parkand a newly constructed 10,000 square foot
Kid-e-Scape play structure for children of all ages.
Riverfront parks
are located on M-29 north of Marine City. They provide access for fishermen, a place to
watch ships on the river and a scenic place to picnic.
Hathaway Park is a
neighborhood park in the northern part of the township. The size is about 1.6 acres and it
has a basketball court and play area for children.
